Compression Molding

Meridian has some of the largest tonnage capacity in North America with compression presses ranging from 600 tons to 4,500 tons. By using the larger presses, entire vehicle front ends can be manufactured in one piece.

Technologically advanced controls monitor pressure, temperature, and cycle times to produce world-class quality parts. This manufacturing process can be combined with thermoset or thermoplastic materials that can be fiber and mineral reinforced.

Materials molded utilizing compression molding:

  • SMC - Sheet Molding Compound
  • BMC - Bulk Molding compound
  • DLFT - Direct Compounded Long Fiber Thermoplastic
  • GMT - Glass Mat Thermoplastic

Competitive Advantages:

  • Manufacturing awards from GM, DCX, Honda, Toyota and Ford
  • The Society of Plastics Engineers has recognized us with awards for body panels in the categories of Materials, Processing, Exteriors, Chassis Hardware Assembly, and the Grand Award for the Most Innovative Use of Plastics.
  • We have consistently provided quality parts on time and within customer targets

Parts for which this process is used:

  • Exterior body panels including doors, hoods, decklids, fenders, tonneau covers, roof systems, hatches and liftgates
  • Structural components including, GORs, valve covers, wiper tubs, shot gun reinforcements, IP structural ducts, underbody shielding, stowage tubs, Pickup truck boxes and running boards
